Crawley YBC: Parents and Supporters Charter
Working Together to Support Our Bowlers
We are proud of the enthusiasm, encouragement, and commitment shown by parents, grandparents, and guardians at Crawley YBC. Your support plays a vital role in helping young bowlers enjoy the sport, build confidence, and stay motivated.
To provide a safe, consistent, and effective learning environment for all bowlers, we ask for your support with the following principles.
Coaching During Club Sessions
All technical coaching and instruction during Crawley YBC club sessions is delivered only by qualified Crawley YBC coaches. These coaches are trained, insured, and work together using a shared coaching plan for each athlete.
Well-intentioned technical advice from non-coaches, including to one’s own child, can unintentionally create confusion, mixed messages, or additional pressure for young bowlers. This is particularly true when different guidance is given by different adults.
For this reason, parents, grandparents, and guardians are asked not to offer coaching or technical instruction to any bowlers during club sessions.
If you have observations, questions, or concerns about your child’s development, we warmly encourage you to speak to a member of the coaching team before or after sessions. Coaches are always happy to explain what a bowler is working on and how you can best support them away from the lanes.
The Player Area and Club Environment
During Crawley YBC club sessions, we ask that parents, grandparents, and guardians remain in the bowling centre concourse behind the lanes, unless there is a previously agreed reason for them to accompany their child at all times. This may include welfare, medical, or safeguarding considerations, which we are always happy to discuss in advance.
Keeping the player seating area clear allows coaches to:
Move safely and easily between bowlers
Demonstrate techniques effectively
Access players without disruption
Provide consistent support across the club
With up to four bowlers per lane, the player seating area can become crowded very quickly. Additional adults in this space reduce room for bowlers, their equipment, and coaches, making it harder to deliver effective coaching.
Maintaining a clear player area also helps bowlers develop independence and focus, and reflects tournament conditions, where only accredited coaches displaying their licence are permitted in the player area. This prepares our athletes for events such as the Youth National Championships.
A Shared Goal
We truly value the role families play in our club and welcome encouragement, positivity, and celebration from the concourse behind the lanes.
By respecting these boundaries and working within clear roles, we create a calm, focused, and supportive environment where every young bowler can learn with confidence, avoid mixed messages, and enjoy their bowling experience.
